JT Realmuto makes thoughts extremely clear on Phillies’ slump

The Philadelphia Phillies are not exactly in shining form of late. After defeating the Toronto Blue Jays to close out a series at home and winning the first game of another series versus the St. Louis Cardinals on the road, JT Realmuto and company have lost two in a row to finish the set versus the Cards.

That Cardinals series concluded unfavorably for Philadelphia, which lost 7-1 on Wednesday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Realmuto shared his thoughts on the Phillies’ recent slump, particularly on offense, which produced just a run in the final two games of the St. Louis series.

“Yeah, it’s tough. Those are usually the guys, you know, when they’re on the mound, we feel pretty good about ourselves winning,” Realmuto told reporters following the game, lamenting the Phillies’ anemic offense failing to provide enough run support for their pitchers (via NBC Sports Philadelphia).

“So not being able to capitalize on that, you know, yesterday [Cristopher Sanchez] did great. We just didn’t do enough offensively and kind of the same story today. It’s obviously not ideal, but just got to keep plugging along. Those guys are going to keep going well for us. So we’ll put some run to support behind him and win some games when they’re out there.”

The three-time All-Star backstop Realmuto later said that the Phillies will just have to find a way out of their slump.

“We got to turn it around,” Realmuto added. “Obviously, there’s still plenty of time to do so, but nobody in here is happy about the brand of baseball we’re playing right now. So we just need to figure it out, turn it around, and play a lot better here pretty quickly.”

The Phillies dropped to 64-58 after the loss to St. Louis, putting them nine games behind the Atlanta Braves for the No. 1 spot in the National League East standings. But Philadelphia is also just on the outside looking in on the wild-card picture in the NL.
