The New York Mets endured a challenging Sunday, suffering a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals, with losses of 6-5 and 5-4. Despite tallying 10 hits in each game, the Mets struggled to capitalize, leaving a combined 22 runners on base across both contests. In the first game, rookie pitcher Blade Tidwell made his MLB debut but allowed six runs, while in the second game, Tylor Megill surrendered four earned runs, contributing to the team's defeats.

A pivotal moment in the second game occurred when Juan Soto was robbed of a potential three-run homer by Cardinals' center fielder Victor Scott II.

In the top of the fourth inning, with the game tied at 4-4, Soto launched a ball toward center field, only for Scott to make a leaping catch at the wall, preventing the Mets from taking the lead.

Reflecting on the play, Soto acknowledged, "I wouldn't feel happy at all, but it's part of the game. Just got to find a different hole next time." (via SNYtv)

Since joining the Mets on a 15-year, $765 million contract, Soto has experienced a modest start to the season. Entering Monday, he has a .256 batting average with five home runs.

Analysts have noted a decrease in his barreling rate and effectiveness against fastballs compared to previous seasons. Despite these early challenges, team officials remain confident in Soto's ability to adjust and contribute significantly as the season progresses.

The Mets aim to rebound as they begin a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. With a current record of 22-14, they seek to regain momentum and solidify their standing in the National League East. Soto, in particular, will be looking to overcome recent frustrations and make a substantial impact in the upcoming games.
