Justin Verlander has 262 pitching wins in MLB, and none of them are with the San Francisco Giants.
The future Baseball Hall of Famer failed anew in his bid to record his first victory on the mound in the 2025 MLB regular season, as the Giants fell prey to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night at Oracle Park in San Francisco via a 4-2 score.
Verlander toed the rubber in that contest, having gone 0-4 in his previous 11 starts in a San Francisco uniform. He is now 0-5 through 12 starts after he gave up three earned runs on five hits with a walk issued in five innings of work.
According to Michael Wagaman of the Associated Press, Verlander's 12-start stretch without picking up a victory is the longest of his decorated career in the big leagues. Additionally, it also set the longest such streak in Giants history.
Despite his setbacks with the Giants, Verlander believes no one is more accountable for his mound miseries than himself. "It's not on them, it's on me,” the three-time Cy Young winner told reporters following the game (h/t KNBR). “ I haven't put us in a good position... can't expect to get any wins when you go out there every time and give up 3+ runs and don't go deep into games."
Verlander, who turned 42 in February, has a 4.52 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 61.2 innings on the mound so far in 2025.
The Giants will look to turn things around with a different starter his Wednesday in the second game of the series against Miami, with San Francisco giving the ball to much more dependable Logan Webb, who has a 7-5 record and 2.49 ERA.
