Kansas City Royals Bobby Witt Jr. Matches Incredible Feat
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has developed into one of the true superstars in the MLB. He has helped the Royals turn things around in 2024, as they look to be out of their rebuild and ready to contend for a playoff spot.

Entering play on Wednesday, the Kansas City Royals are 31-19, 1.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the AL Central. Only four teams in baseball have more victories than Kansas City, as they have played at a high level in every facet of the game.

Offensively, they are being led by Bobby Witt Jr., who is making a strong MVP case out of the gates. Through 50 games, he has recorded a slash line of .304/.362/.546. He is leading baseball with 45 runs scored and is on pace to shatter his previous career bests in several categories.

He already has 14 doubles, six triples and seven home runs as a legitimate power/speed threat. On the season, he has stolen 15 bases and knocked in 31 runs. Whatever the Royals have needed him to do, he has done it.

That production has put Bobby Witt Jr. in rarified air. As shared by OptaSTATS on X, he is the first MLB player with at least 100 total bases, 30 RBI and 15 stolen bases through the first 50 games of a season since Barry Bonds in 1992.

In 1992, with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bonds won his second career MVP award. He finished the season leading MLB in runs, walks, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, OPS+ and intentional walks.

Whenever you are accomplishing something that one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game has done, you are doing something right. Bobby Witt Jr. is the face of the Kansas City Royals and is helping turn things around after missing the postseason for eight straight seasons.
