Kansas City Royals Sign Right-Handed Pitcher

The Kansas City Royals this evening announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jonathan Heasley. Heasley has not pitched since the end of March, after the Chicago White Sox released him. The deal is a minor league deal for the Royals. The White Sox released him without allowing him to appear in a game.

The Royals originally drafted Heasley in the 13th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. Heasley attended Oklahoma State. In two seasons with the Cowboys, he made 37 appearances, with 20 of those coming as starts, going 6-10 with a 5.19 ERA, a 1.53 WHIP, and 110 strikeouts in 118 innings. He pitched in summer ball between those two seasons. Heasley pitched at Newport in the NECL. In nine appearances, with two of those coming as starts, he went 0-2. He posted a 7.36 ERA, a 2.02 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts in 18.1 innings.

In the minor leagues, he has pitched for the Royals and the Baltimore Orioles organizations. He has made 110 appearances, starting 79 of them. He went 19-19 with a 4.30 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 435 strikeouts in 433.1 innings. He’s also appeared in 40 career games in the big leagues. Heasley went 5-12 with a 5.89 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts in 139 innings of work.
