Burglars apparently made away with a sizable amount in possessions from Ketel Marte’s home.
The Arizona Diamondbacks star second baseman Marte spoke with reporters on Sunday and revealed the extent of the recent burglary at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. Marte said that around $400,000 worth of items was stolen from his residence, per Jake Garcia of 12Sports in Arizona.
While Marte was playing in Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta, Ga., burglars hit his house in Scottsdale while no one was home. We initially learned that a number of personal items, including jewelry, were stolen from Marte’s residence, and now we have an idea of the true extent of the crime.
Marte ended up asking for time off after the burglary. Though the Dbacks granted Marte’s request, he was placed on the restricted list, meaning that Marte was not paid during his absence.
The three-time MLB All-Star Marte ended up missing Arizona’s entire weekend set at home against the St. Louis Cardinals (which the Dbacks won in a sweep). Marte did tell reporters though that he will be back in the lineup on Monday at home against the Houston Astros as Arizona’s designated hitter.
Marte’s decision to ask for time off came in the midst of a challenging last month or so for him. During a game in June, an opposing fan made a comment taunting Marte over his late mother, who died in a 2017 car accident. The fan ended up getting a severe punishment from Major League Baseball as a result of the incident.
