Since their strong start to the season, the Seattle Mariners have started to come back down to earth over the last two weeks.
After starting the year with an 18-12 record through March and April, May has not been as kind to this point. The month has seen the Mariners post just a 5-7 record, and they have gone 3-7 over their last 10.
The offense has failed to get things going in that stretch, scoring just 34 runs or 3.4 per game, and with key injuries to two pieces of the rotation, and two other members of the unit having uncharacteristically slow starts to the year, it has not been a recipe for success.

Seattle Mariners - 1st in AL West
A recent article from Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report took a look at all 30 pitching staffs in Major League Baseball to this point in the season. With those injuries and slow starts, Miller ranked the Mariners' staff 16th.
"Though the M's have regressed from arguably the best staff in the majors in 2024 to just OK thus far in 2025," writes Miller, "there's still plenty of "if they get healthy" optimism here, with George Kirby nearing his season debut while Logan Gilbert hopefully won't be out for too much longer. Got to hope both Luis Castillo and Bryce Miller will rebound from their slow starts, too. In the meantime, at least Andrés Muñoz has been incredible at closer, posting a line of 18.0 IP, 7 H, 0 ER, 25 K with an AL-best 13 saves."
Losing Logan Gilbert for any amount of time is a huge blow. He has become one of the preeminent starters in MLB after a breakout performance last year saw him lead the sport with 208 2/3 innings pitched.
Gilbert was off to an even better start this year. Through his first six games, he pitched to a 2.37 ERA across 30 1/3 innings with 44 strikeouts and a 154 ERA+. His absence has been noticed, but his return is coming soon.
Logan Gilbert threw roughly 25 pitches in his first bullpen session today, adding intensity towards the end while topping out at 94 mph.

“It’s more than a mid-week bullpen would be anyways, so I kind of feel like I'm back in the rhythm of normal.” pic.twitter.com/6a7UQxE66Y
The pitching staff as a whole is still good, on paper. Once Gilbert returns, if the offense can get back to the success they were having early in the year, things will be back on track for the M's.
