Kyle Schwarber sees similarities between 2016 Cubs and Phillies' uphill climb

Following a 3-2 loss in Game 5, the Philadelphia Phillies must pull out two wins on the road if they hope to become World Series champions.

Up against a Houston Astros club hungry for redemption, the task in front of the Phillies is tall but not impossible.

Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber has experienced it with the 2016 Chicago Cubs. They overcame a 3-1 deficit to defeat Cleveland in the World Series, winning the final two games on the road.

On Friday, Schwarber said the Phillies must approach the rest of the series with the Astros like the Cubs did six years ago.

"We know that this is a one-game-at-a-time thing," Schwarber said, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. "This was never a big-picture thing. It wasn't back then [with the Cubs], either."

Along with the Cubs, only the St. Louis Cardinals (1926, 1934), New York Yankees (1952, 1958), Detroit Tigers (1968) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1979) have won Games 6 and 7 of the World Series on the road, but Schwarber believes the Phillies can join the exclusive group.

"I don't think anyone believes more in this group than we do," Schwarber said. "That's going to be a big thing for us. We've just got to be able to play all the outs. We're going to see where it takes us."

If Schwarber and the Phillies are to come from behind to beat the Astros, they'll need their offense to get hot again. After tying a major league record with five home runs in a Game 3 victory, the Phillies were no-hit in Game 4 and managed only two runs off six hits Game 5's loss

Schwarber supplied one of the Phillies' two runs on Thursday, blasting a lead-off home run in the first inning. During the World Series, the 29-year-old has gone 4-for-17 with two homers, three RBI and five walks.
