Latest updates on several injured Atlanta Braves

The Braves suffered a number of critical injuries down the stretch — two to the rotation and one to the outfield.

Bryce Elder hit the Injured List at the beginning of the month with a knee injury — one that required a minor surgery. He was out on the field today at Truist Park throwing live batting practice, but it still feels unlikely he returns unless the Braves make it to the NLCS.

Bryce Elder’s FB was close to normal (92 mph) during today’s live BP. He feels good pitching, but doesn’t know how his knee will react when he needs to field his position. NLDS still seems doubtful, but NLCS could be in play.

Injured reliever Joe Jimenez was also throwing to live hitters at Truist Park on Monday. The once-shutdown setup man hasn’t pitched in a major-league game since 2024 after undergoing several knee surgeries. At one point not long ago, it seemed doubtful he’d ever pitch again, but he’s checked a lot of boxes throughout the season to get to a point where it feels like he’ll be on an MLB roster again — even if making an appearance in the playoffs is not something the Braves are seriously considering.

Martin Perez and Lane Thomas are also out for the Wild Card Series. Perez hit the Injured List last week with back inflammation. He’s not eligible to return until October 6th, but there’s hope he could be an option later in the postseason.

Thomas has been out since September 10th with an intercostal strain. His absence has left the Braves with a void in left field, one they’ll likely fill with a combination of Mauricio Dubon and Mike Yastrzemski until he’s deemed clear to play.
