One legendary Cardinal could be headed to the Hall of Fame, and it’s not a player.

Fredbird, the beloved mascot of the St. Louis Cardinals, has been named a nominee for the 2025 Mascot Hall of Fame, the organization announced Sunday. This marks the second time in four years that Fredbird has appeared on the ballot.

Introduced in April 1979, the energetic Northern cardinal quickly became a fan favorite with crowd-pleasing antics at Busch Stadium. According to the Cardinals, Fredbird has appeared in over 3,600 regular-season games and has been present for three of the franchise’s 11 World Series titles.

Fredbird may not directly help on the field, but with the support of Cardinals fans, the St. Louis fan-favorite might just earn its place in mascot history. The bird was previously inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

The Mascot Hall of Fame, founded in 2005, currently includes 33 professional and collegiate mascots, and eight of which represent Major League Baseball.

Fredbird is among several high-profile nominees this year, joining the ranks of The Oregon Duck, Michigan State’s Sparty, BYU’s Cosmo the Cougar, and NL Central opponents Bernie Brewer of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pirate Parrot of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fan voting is open from May 11 to May 24, with participants allowed to vote once per day. The inductees are set to be announced in June.
