Legendary Long-Time Broadcaster to be Honored by Reds

For 45 years, Marty Brennaman called Cincinnati Reds games on the radio. For 31 of those years, he was partnered with the legendary lefty, Joe Nuxhall. The duo narrated the childhood of generations of Reds fans and his iconic, "And this one belongs to the Reds" is unlike anything in baseball. He coined the phrase in his second game as an announcer and never looked back.

He retired in 2019 and now, the Reds are set to honor him with a bronze statue near the Reds' front office building facing Joe Nuxhall Way, welcoming fans as they arrive at Crosley Terrace.

Currently, there are eight Reds greats honored with statues on Crosley Terrace: Ted Kluszewski, Ernie Lombardi, Joe Nuxhall, Frank Robinson, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, and Pete Rose.

“This sculpture will be a tribute to Marty Brennaman’s incredible legacy and represents all that he means to Reds Country,” said Phil Castellini, Reds President and CEO. “For nearly five decades, Marty was the voice of the Reds, bringing unforgettable moments to life for generations of fans. Now, his presence outside Great American Ball Park will be a lasting reminder of his passion and love for this team and this city.”

Local, internationally renowned artist Tom Tsuchiya was commissioned to make the piece. He has worked with the Reds previously, sculpting Reds players and the 1896 Red Stockings Pavillions at GABP. He also provides the plaques for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Reds Hall of Fame.

A dedication ceremony will be held before the Reds vs. New York Mets game on September 6. (6:40 p.m. first pitch)
