Legendary Yankees Pitcher Sounds Off as Yankees Bullpen Implodes Again

Joba Chamberlain was always a Yankees fan favorite. Now, the former phenom sounds like every other frustrated New York Yankees fan suffering through a five-game losing streak and wondering when it will stop.

“I HAVE NO WORDS RIGHT NOW…….this is almost unbelievable,” Chamberlain posted Tuesday night on X, formerly Twitter, after Devin Williams gave up two runs in the eighth inning.

“This is tough to watch,” he added, sharing a post that read: Devin Williams is one of the worst things to happen to the New York Yankees.

“I might have to take a night off so my brain doesn’t hurt,” Chamberlain wrote.

Williams has now allowed runs in four straight appearances. On Tuesday night against the Rangers, it unraveled in the eighth. After Jasson Dominguez misplayed a sharp line drive over his head, Williams walked two straight batters, then gave up a two-run single to Rowdy Tellez.

While Chamberlain’s reaction focused on Williams, the decision to go back to the struggling closer instead of David Bednar was just as puzzling. Chamberlain seemed to be hinting he wanted answers.

“OK, buckle up for this postgame. Anything could be said at this point,” he tweeted.

Chamberlain, a former Yankees pitcher, knows what it’s like to deal with the pressure in New York. He was one of baseball’s most hyped pitching prospects in the late 2000s, drafted 41st overall by the Yankees in 2006 out of Nebraska. In 2007, he debuted with a dominant 0.38 ERA in 24 innings out of the bullpen.

But Chamberlain’s own career was derailed by injuries, including Tommy John surgery in 2011 and a trampoline accident in 2012 that dislocated his ankle. He pitched through 2013 with the Yankees before finishing his career with Detroit, Kansas City and Cleveland.

Still, Chamberlain remains closely tied to the Bronx. He regularly interacts with fans online—and when he tweets during a Yankees collapse, it’s not just noise. It’s a former Yankee who still bleeds pinstripes.
