The San Francisco Giants were eliminated from title contention on Thursday by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was a magical year for San Francisco, but at the end of the day, L.A. was too much to handle.

Logan Webb got the start for the Giants in the final game of the series.

It was his second start of the 2021 NLDS and his second-ever start in the postseason.

After the 24-year-old had a fantastic regular season, the Giants put a lot of faith in him by giving him two playoff starts.

And he delivered.

Both times out, Webb dominated in this NLDS.

He gave the Giants all they could have asked for.

But unfortunately, the team didn’t help the youngster out.

His Game 5 gem went to waste when San Francisco’s bats went cold.

Webb Did All He Could In Game 5

Webb toed the rubber in Game 5 with everything on the line.

The righty knew how high the stakes were, but that didn’t seem to change his approach.

He looked like the rising star that Giants fans have known him to be for months.

Webb emptied the tank, using 106 pitches to work through seven innings of one-run ball.

He allowed just four hits and one walk, and he fanned seven batters just for good measure.

When he left the game, the score was tied.

Unfortunately, the San Francisco bullpen couldn’t keep it that way, and the Giants failed to answer offensively after the Dodgers took the lead.

L.A. deserves tons of credit for getting the job done, but that doesn’t make this any easier for Webb to stomach.

He did everything in his power to pitch San Francisco to the NLCS.

He Had A 0.61 ERA In The Series

The 2021 playoffs were the first of Webb’s career, and it took him just two starts to establish himself as a big-game pitcher.

We just talked about his performance in Game 5, but he also put on a show in Game 1.

In Game 1, former fourth-round pick hurled 7.2 innings of shutout ball, fanning 10 guys, walking none, and allowing just five hits.

It was a dominant showing.

Between his outings in Games 1 and 5, he finished the series with some ridiculous numbers: a 0.61 ERA, 1.06 FIP, .173 opponent batting average, and .419 opponent OPS.

Webb is THAT guy.

If the Giants find themselves in the postseason again next year, it seems pretty obvious who their No. 1 rotation option is going to be.

Look For Webb To Take Another Step Forward In 2022

Webb was one of the best stories of the 2021 season for the Giants.

Over the first two years of his career (2019 and 2020), he pitched to a 5.36 ERA over 21 outings (19 starts).

Expectations weren’t very high for him going into the 2021 campaign.

But he silenced the doubters by pitching to a 3.03 ERA, 2.72 FIP, and 1.11 WHIP across 27 regular season outings (26 starts) in 2021.

Of course, he followed it up with a stellar postseason.

Now that he has found his footing at the MLB level, look for him to take another leap in 2022.

The sky is the limit for this guy, and that’s great news for the Giants, who have him under club control until 2026.
