The Los Angeles Angels received some terrible news as it was reported that reliever Ben Joyce will miss the remainder of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury. He has not pitched since April 8 and appeared in five games this season. He will be undergoing shoulder surgery and is hoping to be ready for 2026 Spring Training. The injury bug has bitten the Angels throughout the last handful of seasons so let’s take a closer look at what this means for the team going forward.

Los Angeles Angels Lose Ben Joyce for 2025 Season

The Angels are in a position where they are going to be depending on other bullpen pieces as their flamethrowing reliever is out for the remainder of the season, per Fansided’s Robert Murray. Joyce went 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP in 4.1 innings over the course of five games this season before landing on the Injured List in early April. The 24-year-old reliever is still in the pre-arbitration portion of his contract and will not begin arbitration until the 2027 season. The team currently sits at 17-24, which is last in the AL West and are struggling to stay afloat right now.

It appears that the team is going to be sellers at the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline as right fielder Mike Trout continues to be on the IL while third baseman Anthony Rendon is also out for the remainder of the season. The Angels are currently tied for last with the Washington Nationals with a 7.07 reliever ERA at the time of this writing. It will be interesting to see how the team looks going forward, but it appears that this will be another lost season for the Los Angeles Angels and hopefully Joyce can return to begin next season with his electric velocity.
