The entire baseball world is set on the fact that the Pittsburgh Pirates need to ship off starting pitcher Paul Skenes, and that maybe even Skenes himself wants to be shipped off due to the Pirates' "lack of future".
There would be a frenzy of MLB teams in on one of the best young right-handed starters in the game, and the Los Angeles Dodgers could be one of them.
Recently, The Athletic came out with a piece that includes dream packages from several teams that would send Skenes off.
The 22-year-old Skenes is one of the most valuable trade assets in recent memory because he has so much team control left, and is already a bona fide ace so early in his career.
In The Athletic's piece, they suggested the Dodgers give away young catcher Dalton Rushing, outfielder Andy Pages, LHP Jackson Ferris, and RHP Landon Knack.
Here is what the author Jim Bowden wrote about the potential deal:
"The Dodgers could offer the Pirates a long-term answer at catcher (Rushing) and a solution for left field (Pages), improving their lineup for this season and years to come. Ferris, 21, isn’t ready for the majors yet, but has the stuff to become a top-of-the-rotation starter if his command and control improve. Knack would slot into the Pirates’ rotation right away, effectively replacing Skenes. On the other side of the trade, the Dodgers’ postseason rotation, if healthy, could be Skenes, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Shohei Ohtani, and Tyler Glasnow."
This is a big haul to give up for Los Angeles, but it's a good chance for them to sell high on many players, and Rushing is off to a good start to his career. Pages had a great end of April and beginning of May, but the law of averages might be catching up to him. This is a great trade idea for Pittsburgh to build a strong core.
