Los Angeles Dodgers Designated Hitter Shohei Ohtani had a Memorial Day to remember on the road against the Cleveland Guardians. He hit a leadoff home run to put himself in rarefied air. It was Ohtani’s 19th home run of the season. That is the second-most home runs through 54 games in Dodgers franchise history. Only Gil Hodges in 1951(20) has more home runs through 54 games.
Monday was also Ohtani’s second consecutive game with a leadoff home run. He is looking to go deep to begin tomorrow’s game for the second-most consecutive game with a leadoff home run. Ohtani has had a strong season following an NL MVP Award in 2024. He is 18th in the league in batting average and has the most home runs in the sport. Will Ohtani continue performing well at the plate?

It has been another good regular season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. They are leading the National League West at 33-21. Los Angeles has a tremendous assortment of talent on offense. It has been reflected in the team’s statistics. They are tied for the league lead in batting average, second in home runs, and second in runs scored. Ohtani is not the only Dodgers player that has gotten off to a stellar start. First Baseman Freddie Freeman is second in batting average and second in OPS. Right Fielder Teoscar Hernandez is sixth in the league in RBI.
LA’s pitching staff has been the far weaker part of their squad. They are 20th in ERA, 17th in WHIP, and 13th in opposing batting average. Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been the best pitcher on the staff this season. He is sixth in the league in ERA, tied for fourth in wins, and eighth in strikeouts.
Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers return to the diamond tomorrow night for the middle game of their three-game set against the Cleveland Guardians. The former MVP also can look forward to a return to the mound later this season. He threw live BP on Sunday. Ohtani is already one of the league’s best hitters, but the Dodgers can expect a dominant pitcher as well in the coming months.
