The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Stephen Gonsalves to a Minor League contract, which presumably includes a non-roster invite to 2024 Spring Training.

The San Diego, California, native was originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Gonsalves made his professional debut that year, posting a minuscule 0.95 ERA in 28.1 innings pitched for the organization’s Rookie-level affiliate.

After spending parts of the next five seasons in the Minors, the left-hander was called up by the Twins for his MLB debut on August 20, 2018. Gonsalves allowed four runs on six hits in just 1.1 innings of work against the Chicago White Sox.

Gonsalves went 2-2 with 6.57 ERA, 5.71 FIP and 2.03 WHIP in 24.2 innings pitched over seven games (four starts) that season. He did not pitch at the big league level in 2019 and was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets at the end of the year.

Gonsalves’ stint with the Mets was short-lived as he was designated for assignment prior to the shortened 2020 season. The Boston Red Sox claimed Gonsalves off waivers and he returned to the Majors during the following campaign.

The 29-year-old pitched in three games for the Red Sox in 2021, yielding a combined four runs and two hits in 4.1 innings. He became a free agent after the season and signed a Minor League contract with the Chicago Cubs.

Gonsalves spent the next two seasons with the organization but never advanced past Triple-A Iowa. With the Dodgers, he will likely continue serving as depth in Oklahoma City.
