Los Angeles Dodgers Starting Pitcher Clayton Kershaw added to his illustrious resume this afternoon on the road against the Cleveland Guardians. He surrendered one earned run over five innings of work as Los Angeles lost 7-4. While Kershaw pitching well on Wednesday, his bullpen let him down.
This afternoon’s start was the all-time great’s 204th career start allowing one earned run or fewer. He has accomplished that in a whopping 47.2% of his career starts. That is the highest percentage among 310 pitchers to debut in the modern era (since 1901) with at least 300 starts. The next highest is Chris Sale at 40.9%. This was only Kershaw’s third start of 2025 as he returned from knee and toe injuries. He is 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA. Will this help him get on track?

Kershaw is one of the best pitchers in league history. His accolades mean a call will come from the National Baseball Hall of Fame five years after he hangs up his cleats. He is a 10-time MLB All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner, a National League MVP, and a World Series champion. He has also won the pitching “Triple Crown” and a Gold Glove.
Kershaw’s next scheduled start is on June 3 at home against the New York Mets. Even though the former NL MVP is not the pitcher he once was, Wednesday’s start was a welcome reminder that he can turn back the clock at times. Even in his 18th MLB season.
