LSU Pitcher Named Top College Prospect by MLB Pipeline

On Thursday, MLB Pipeline released their newest draft prospect list, identifying the top-200 prospects coming out of high school and college. Their new list has LSU pitcher, Kade Anderson, as the No. 1 college and No. 3 overall prospect in the draft.

Kade Anderson entered the year with some high expectations, and he's met them thus far. He's LSU's ace and has been quite dominant, which has helped make him the No. 1 ranked college prospect in the country as a sophomore.

In college baseball, you typically need to play three years to be draft eligible, but Anderson is old enough to be eligible as a sophomore. A big loss for LSU, but great for Anderson.

Anderson began the season as LSU's ace and hasn't looked back since. He's started every Thursday/Friday game this season and boasts a 3.54 ERA. He's thrown 89.0 innings and has allowed 35 earned runs on 72 hits while striking out 145 batters, which is the most in the country.

Anderson's best performance came against Oklahoma where he threw a complete game shutout while striking out 14 batters and throwing 135 pitches, 91 of which were strikes.

Teams value a left handed pitching, which certainly helps Anderson's case for being the top college prospect, but even if he was a right hander, he would still likely be in the running.

The only two prospects that rank higher than Anderson on MLB Pipeline are Ethan Holiday (SS/3B) from Stillwater, Oklahoma and Seth Hernandez (RHP) from Corona, California.

With a strong postseason, Anderson could make a case for being the top pick in the draft, but he should be a near lock for the top-10 no matter what happens.
