Luis Robert Jr. might want to start brushing up on his New York and Philadelphia trivia. With the Major League Baseball trade deadline approaching, the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies have both been linked to the Chicago White Sox center fielder, who, despite a rocky start to the 2025 season, has shown tantalizing glimpses of his true potential lately.

This season, Robert Jr. has struggled to live up to expectations, posting a batting average of .184 with seven home runs and 31 RBI alongside a lackluster .573 OPS. However, USA Today MLB insider Bob Nightengale reports a significant turnaround in performance that's catching the attention of several teams. "He has played better of late with a .703 OPS the last two weeks, leads the league with 22 stolen bases and plays a terrific center field," Nightengale noted, underlining the complicated situation the White Sox find themselves in regarding Robert Jr.

Despite the whispers of discontent and the potential for a trade, there are silver linings. The recent uptick in Robert Jr.'s stats has not gone unnoticed, and his market value appears to be climbing — welcome news for the Sox and general manager Chris Getz.

"The likelihood of Robert being traded, barring an injury? Just about 100%," Nightengale declared, highlighting the outfielder's precarious position with the Sox. This statement alone sets the stage for imminent action as the trade deadline looms.
