A 21-year-old man has been charged with providing alcohol to a minor from the Pittsburgh Pirates fan’s fall at PNC Park last month. Per TMZ Sports, Ethan Kirkwood is facing two misdemeanor counts of furnishing liquor to Kavan Markwood before the 20-year-old suffered injuries in a 21-foot fall from his seat during the Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs game on April 30.

The outlet obtained the criminal complaint, which said that Kirkwood was seen on video purchasing two cans of beer before the start of the game. A video then shows Kirkwood and Marwood holding beers, and Kirkwood going back to the bar to buy two more beers.

Kirkwood admitted to buying alcohol for Markwood at PNC Park. He is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing in the case in late June.

Pirates fan Kavin Markwood shares health update

Markwood suffered multiple injuries after the fall, including a broken neck, clavicle, and back. Earlier this month, Markwood, who played college football for Walsh University and Wheeling University, spoke to TribLive and gave an update on his health.

“I’m all right,” he said. “I can’t really sleep. I have a lot of back pain.” Markwood also said that he is grateful to everyone who donated to his GoFundMe page, which has raised over $67,500. “It’s a slow, slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits,” Jennifer Phillips, the mother of Markwood’s girlfriend, wrote in an update on the GoFundMe page in early May.

“He still has a long way to go — he’s dealing with a broken neck, clavicle, and back so there are plenty of obstacles ahead,” Phillips wrote. “But he’s showing real strength, and we’re staying hopeful for a smooth recovery. This will also require plenty of rest and following instructions from the great doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital.”

Markwood was with the Walsh football team in 2022, but it was reported he didn’t play in any games. In 2023, Markwood played for Wheeling and recorded four tackles in five games. Wheeling sports information director Zack Zeigler told TribLive, “Kavan is a valued member of our Cardinal family. He played on the football team for the 2023 season after transferring from Walsh University.”
