Francona, a two-time World Series winner and two-time American League Manager of the Year, has been out since Aug. 2 due to what the club referred to as a gastrointestinal issue. A similar problem bothered the skipper during spring training in March before MLB paused the season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
It's believed Francona's latest ailment isn't related to COVID-19.
Cleveland dropped two straight contests with former catcher and current coach Sandy Alomar Jr. serving as the club's interim manager. The Indians then went on to win five of six leading up to Monday's off day ahead of the two-game series versus the Cubs.
