Marcell Ozuna booed by Braves fans in first game back from DUI arrest

Atlanta Braves left fielder Marcell Ozuna played in his first game Sunday since getting arrested early Friday morning on DUI charges, and he wasn't welcomed back by the fans at Truist Park.

Ozuna, 31, struck out swinging on both of his at-bats Sunday before he was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning. On each of his two plate appearances, Ozuna was greeted by showers of boos from the fans in Atlanta.

Ozuna earned two All-Star nods in 2016 and 2017 while with the Miami Marlins and later had a stint with the St. Louis Cardinals before joining the Braves in 2020. After his first season in Atlanta, Ozuna re-signed with the team on a four-year, $64 million deal.

Just a few months after signing the new contract with the Braves, Ozuna was arrested and charged with aggravated assault stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident. He was placed on administrative during the 2021 season and missed the team's postseason run, including its win in the World Series. The charges against him were dropped in April.

In video of his DUI arrest, Ozuna can be seen telling an officer that he plays for the Braves and handing the officer his MLB identification.
