According to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Marcus Stroman was seen in the Cubs’ clubhouse on Tuesday and threw a bullpen session.

With the long list of Cubs on the injured list right now, it’s great to see one of them potentially coming off soon. Stroman, who was coming off one of his better outings of the season earlier this month against the Milwaukee Brewers, was placed on the injured list just a few days afterwards. It was suggested that he may have been on the COVID IL, due to other players on the team dealing with COIVD-like symptoms, but it was not specified.

For the season, Stroman is 1-3 with a 5.13 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. However, in his last start before he was put on the IL, he was in dominant form. In 7.0 innings against the Brewers, the righty gave up zero runs while striking out five to get the win.

If Stroman returns to the rotation soon, and guys like Kyle Hendricks, Justin Steele, and Wade Miley can stay consistent, don’t be surprised to see the Cubs jump up in the division standings soon. With the upcoming schedule (Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Cincinnati Reds), it’d be a great time to make it happen.
