The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to trade third baseman Eugenio Suárez to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for three prospects: Tyler Locklear, Hunter Cranston, and Juan Burgos.
For Seattle, this move is a major addition ahead of the trade deadline. Long rumored to be in pursuit of Suárez, the Mariners land one of the top power hitters available, adding much-needed thump to the heart of their lineup. Suárez will slot in alongside key bats like Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, and J.P. Crawford as Seattle makes a push for October.
This deal comes on the heels of the Mariners acquiring left-hander Caleb Ferguson from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for pitching prospect Jeter Martinez, further signaling that Seattle is going all-in to compete down the stretch. The club currently trails the AL West-leading Houston Astros by five games (62-47), but the recent flurry of moves shows they're serious about closing the gap either for a division title or a Wild Card berth.
In return, Arizona receives a solid package of prospects. Locklear ranks as the Mariners’ No. 9 prospect, while Cranston and Burgos come in at No. 16 and No. 17, respectively. With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, the Mariners may not be done yet.
