A lot of MLB teams like the Seattle Mariners have had to deal with injury issues all season long, making call-ups from the minors more routine than usual. For Seattle, it needed some bullpen help and reached down to Triple-A Tacoma for assistance.
Left-hander Brandyn Garcia joined the Mariners on Monday, July 21, and made his first big-league appearance against the Milwaukee Brewers at T-Mobile Park. While Garcia didn't have that sharp of a first turn on an MLB mound, he did enjoy getting into the mix. Garcia became the eighth rookie to make his major-league debut this season for Seattle.
The Mariners lost to the National League Central Division-leading Brewers 6-0. Milwaukee is the hottest team in MLB right now, winning their 11th straight game. Garcia, though, is getting some major-league experience less than a month from going from Double-A to Triple-A ball.
"Every single person in Spring Training helped me out,” Garcia said, MLB.com reported. “Gabe Speier gave me a little bit of insight, like, ‘You’ve got this. Just keep going and you’re going to help us out one day.’ I took true to that, and I was just going to go about my business during the season.”

Garcia entered the game in the eighth inning on Monday night. He gave up two runs (one earned), four hits, and a walk. Garcia also threw a wild pitch and committed an error. It's like he did pretty much everything wrong on a first outing. Still, Mariners manager Dan Wilson was singing Garcia's praises after the game.
“It was great to see Brandyn out there and get a chance to get his feet wet,” Wilson said. “Obviously, he probably didn’t want to give up the two runs, but I thought he threw the ball pretty well, his sinker was pretty good. Just a couple of bad-luck situations for him.”
With the loss, the Mariners fell five games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West Division race. Seattle looks to get back on the winning track against the Brewers as their three-game series continues on Tuesday night.
