Cal Raleigh and the Seattle Mariners fell one game short of reaching the World Series for the first time in franchise history. Seattle lost Game 7 of the ALCS to the Toronto Blue Jays, 4–3. Raleigh stood in the on-deck circle in the top of the ninth, hoping for a chance to deliver another memorable home run, but never got the opportunity as center fielder Julio Rodriguez struck out to end the season.
Raleigh cemented himself as baseball’s best power hitter in 2025, leading the league in home runs. He smashed 60 long balls, setting two major records: most in a single season in Mariners history, surpassing Ken Griffey Jr.’s 56, and most by a catcher in a single season, breaking Salvador Perez’s mark of 48. His overall offensive numbers were strong as well. The 28-year-old switch-hitting catcher posted a .247 batting average, a .359 on-base percentage and a .948 OPS.
As Raleigh enters the offseason, his breakout campaign has continued to earn recognition. The MLB Players Association honored him with two major awards: American League Outstanding Player and 2025 Player of the Year. These are prestigious honors, voted on by players across the league. Only one Player of the Year is selected across all of MLB, and just one Outstanding Player is chosen in the entire American League. The Mariners shared the development on X.
“More accolades for Big Dumper Congrats to Cal on being named the 2025 Players Choice Awards Player of the Year and AL Outstanding Player, selected by @MLBPA. #TridentsUp” Seattle wrote on Wednesday.

Although the Mariners fell short, the 2025 season was a huge success for the organization. Raleigh still remains in contention for the AL MVP Award as well for his historic season behind the plate. Raleigh has spent the entirety of his five-year career in Seattle since being selected in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft. Raleigh inked a six-year, $105 million contract extension in March, keeping him in Seattle long-term.
The Mariners will have key decisions to make in the offseason, but fortunately Raleigh will remain with the organization for the foreseeable future. Raleigh will get another chance to help Seattle reach the World Series in 2026.
