Mariners are all set for AL postseason push

If Seattle Mariners fans are feeling a little giddy right now, then no one should blame them at all.

The Mariners just finished up winning three of four games over the Texas Rangers on Sunday, moving 2.5 games behind the Houston Astros for the top spot in the American League West division.

Seattle made a couple of key acquisitions at the MLB trade deadline, helping to bolster its offense. Instead of waiting for the proverbial next shoe to drop, Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto started wheeling and dealing. It's enough for MLB fans to take the Mariners seriously this season.

Seattle is loaded for an AL postseason push. It is dead serious about regaining that AL West lead, and the Mariners are setting themselves up for some serious success after the MLB regular season ends.

Catcher Cal Raleigh continues to mash the baseball with 42 home runs and 88 RBI on the season. Eugenio Suarez is getting a second tour of duty with Seattle, and he's got 36 home runs and 87 RBI.

Dipoto also plucked first baseman Josh Naylor away from the Arizona Diamondbacks while pulling Suarez back to the Pacific Northwest.

For Mariners fans looking for some validation about their trade-deadline work, look no further than ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan.

"Seattle is almost fully healthy -- and with Bryce Miller carving in his rehab assignment with a fastball tickling 98 mph and Victor Robles potentially back in September, the Mariners are two recalls away from having the scariest squad they have had since their resurgence started in 2021," Passan wrote in an MLB trade deadline wrap-up.

"But this deadline was about an organization that has drafted as well as any in the 2020s shedding its relative conservatism to take a run in a year where there is no favorite."

Yes, the Mariners went all in at the trade deadline. They wanted to let the AL know that they were not going to be sitting idly by while other teams passed them. By reacquiring Suarez to give the Seattle offense a boost, Dipoto and Seattle management were sending an important message.

They want teams to know that Seattle is not going to be a pushover during the rest of this season. The Mariners know that they have the ball in their court to make these trades work or not. They are going to make a push for postseason play with eyes set on possibly reaching the World Series.
