Mariners Deliver Roster Move Ahead of Rays Series Opener 

Fairchild had been designated for assignment earlier in the week after the Mariners activated trade-deadline acquisitions Taylor Ward and Seranthony Domínguez while also welcoming Brendan Donovan back from a groin injury.

Because he cleared waivers, Fairchild will remain in the organization and provide outfield depth at Triple-A without occupying a spot on Seattle's 40-man roster.

The 30-year-old appeared in just one game during his latest stint with Seattle. Used exclusively as a pinch-runner, Fairchild did not record an official at-bat but scored the winning run on Colt Emerson's walk-off single after entering for Josh Naylor.

Fairchild originally joined the active roster on Aug. 1 after Luke Raley landed on the injured list with a right shoulder strain. His stay in the majors lasted only a few days before Seattle's returning healthy players and trade additions created another roster crunch.

Although Fairchild heads back to Tacoma, the move allows the Mariners to retain an experienced defensive outfielder in the organization while maximizing roster flexibility. With Seattle trying to gain ground in both the American League West and the Wild Card race, maintaining that depth could prove valuable over the final two months of the season.
