After pitching five bulk innings in a shutout loss against the Chicago White Sox, the Seattle Mariners announced Wednesday morning that they have DFA'd 37-year-old right-hander Casey Lawrence, and in the corresponding move, the M's select fellow righty Jesse Hahn.
Lawrence appeared in six games for Seattle this season and posted a 1-2 record with a 4.08 ERA through 17.2 innings of work. Before this move, the team selected Lawrence from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday evening before the afternoon game against Chicago. Lawrence was set to pitch the bulk of the game, and he did just that, pitching five innings of one-run ball on six hits and striking out two.
The 37-year-old originally played with the Mariners in 2017 and is set to become the sixth player in team history to have three separate tenures with Seattle, joining Mike Blowers, Norm Charlton, Raúl Ibañez, Jeff Nelson, and Roenis Elías.
The six-foot righty has played for five Major League teams in his career, starting with Toronto (2017, ’22, '25), Seattle (2017–18, '25), and St. Louis (2023). He has an overall career record of 5–6 with a 6.42 ERA across 141.2 innings pitched and 104 strikeouts.
In the corresponding move, Jesse Hahn was called up from Triple-A Tacoma. He has made five appearances for the Rainiers, going 0–0 with a 0.00 ERA and five strikeouts. Hahn made his season debut on April 5 at San Francisco and overall has tossed four innings with one run allowed and three strikeouts in two games with Seattle in 2025.
