The Seattle Mariners have been one of the best teams in the American League as they are 48 games into their season.

With a record of 28-20, Seattle sits at the top of the AL West with a 3.5 game lead on the rest of the division.

They're set to begin a pivotal four-game series against the Houston Astros in a matchup that will determine if the Mariners will stay at the top of the division.

Although the Mariners have been battling injuries, specifically in their starting pitching rotation, some positive news has struck Seattle's roster.

George Kirby makes a return to the mound, set to start on Thursday

With a ton of Mariners' pitchers on the injured list – from starters Logan Gilbert and Bryce Miller, to bullpen pitchers like Hunter Cranton and Trent Thornton, the team has been awaiting some more positive news.

Before they begin their series in Houston, it's been announced that right-handed pitcher George Kirby will be returning to make his 2025 debut.

Kirby's missed the Mariners first 48 games after experiencing shoulder inflammation in his throwing arm.

It was noticed in the Mariners' Spring Training games and he has been on the injured list since.

His return has been long awaited and Seattle will be hoping that Kirby can return to the same form that was seen from him in 2024.

In 31 games last season, Kirby had an elite outing, having an ERA of 3.53, 1.07 WHIP, and struck out 179 batters in 191 innings pitched.

Since making his debut in 2022, Kirby's compiled an impressive resume, winning AL Rookie of the Month in August of 2022 and being named an All-Star in 2023.

Kirby and the Mariners will look to continue their strong 2025 season and try to beat the Astros on their own field on Thursday.
