Mariners Receive Good News Before Astros Game

The Seattle Mariners are entering Saturday’s matchup with the Houston Astros attempting to extend their lead in the AL West after taking the series opener on Friday. The Mariners have been surging under manager Dan Wilson, winning nine of their last ten games.

Despite the win on Friday, concerns were mounting after one of Seattle’s best starting pitchers, Bryan Woo, departed the game early with pectoral tightness after dealing five scoreless innings. Woo has emerged as one of the most underrated right-handed pitchers in the league, currently owning a 15-7 record through 30 starts, along with a 2.94 ERA and 198 strikeouts. The 25-year-old has fully broken out and was named to his first All-Star selection earlier this season.

Bryan Woo Injury Update Emerges Before Crucial Matchup With Astros

With questions swirling over whether Woo would require a stint on the injured list to recover from his pectoral injury, the Mariners received good news just one day later. Woo’s postgame MRI revealed he only had “minor inflammation” in his pectoral, according to Mariners skipper Dan Wilson ( h/t MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer).

The club also does not anticipate he will go on the injured list and will be listed as day-to-day moving forward.

This is an exciting development for Seattle, as Woo has seemingly avoided a major setback and figures to be available for the postseason. Although the Mariners are in a tight race for the AL West with the Astros, they likely are heading to the postseason — and Woo’s availability in a playoff series will be crucial to Seattle’s success.

Woo has continued to be a reliable arm in the Mariners rotation, and with his emergence, the pitching staff will be a nightmare in October.
