Marlins Demote Player After One Game Played

The Miami Marlins made another roster move Sunday after a difficult stretch, optioning outfielder Rece Hinds to Triple-A Jacksonville just days after his latest call-up. The move came after Hinds appeared in only one game during his return to the major league roster as Miami continued searching for answers amid a five-game losing streak.

Hinds was recalled on July 9 and made his lone appearance on July 12 against the Cleveland Guardians, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout. The Marlins replaced him by recalling infielder Graham Pauley, adding another left-handed bat as they looked to shake up the lineup following consecutive losses to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The roster adjustment reflects Miami's continued effort to maximize flexibility while trying to halt its recent slide. At 52-47, the Marlins remain third in the National League East, though the recent skid has slowed their momentum in the postseason race.

Pauley returns after producing solid numbers in Triple-A Jacksonville and gives Miami another versatile infield option. Meanwhile, Hinds heads back to the minors in search of more regular playing time after receiving only one opportunity during his latest stint with the big league club.

The Marlins have dealt with several roster challenges over the past two weeks. Right fielder Owen Caissie remains on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain, while left-hander John King is sidelined with a left ankle sprain. Right-hander William Kempner also landed on the injured list after suffering a setback.

Despite the recent struggles, Miami continues to rank among baseball's better offensive clubs, carrying a .252 team batting average and leading the majors' upper tier with 104 stolen bases. Otto López has paced the offense with a .335 average, while Heriberto Hernández leads the active roster with 13 home runs and Liam Hicks tops the club with 54 RBIs.

Manager Clayton McCullough and the Marlins will hope Pauley can provide an immediate spark as they attempt to end their five-game losing streak and regain momentum in the National League Wild Card race.
