Marlins parting ways with president of baseball operations Michael Hill

Miami's decision to move on from Hill isn't considered a firing. Hill's contract with the club was up at the end of the 2020 campaign. There was no news about an extension for Hill, but this decision still is surprising given the fact there had been no previous indication that he wouldn't be staying with the club. 

Hill worked his way up the chain of command over his 18-year run in Miami. He moved from assistant general manager to GM in 2007 and then became president of baseball operations in 2013. 

The 49-year-old has a solid reputation around Major League Baseball, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him emerge as a candidate for one of the open general manager or president of baseball ops jobs this offseason. 

Speculation already has linked Hill to the Cincinnati Reds, who just saw their president of baseball operations resign. Hill is from Cincinnati, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him land there. 

After Hill became the Marlins' top executive, they registered just one winning season under him. He was one of only two Black heads of baseball operations in the majors.
