The Miami Marlins selected the contract of right-hander Christian Roa from Triple-A Jacksonville. In corresponding moves, they released right-hander Declan Cronin and placed right-hander Freddy Tarnok on the 15-day injured list.

Roa was a second-round pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2020. However, he was released by the organization in 2024 after a couple of underwhelming seasons in the minors. In 2024, he recorded a 5.55 ERA in 23 games for Louisville, Cincinnati's Triple-A affiliate.

The Marlins rolled the dice on the young arm and claimed him off waivers. So far, he has not disappointed, posting a 2.83 ERA and 1.099 WHIP in 47 relief appearances.

Now, the 26-year-old is set to make his major league debut.

On the other side, Cronin made 56 appearances for the Marlins last season. Across 70 and 1/3 innings, he had a 4.35 ERA, 1.422 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts. In 2025, he made 23 minor league appearances before landing on the IL with an undisclosed injury.

Tarnok has played well in limited relief action for the Marlins this season. In seven and 1/3 innings, he has only allowed two runs, one hit, and four walks, while striking out 10. He is dealing with an ankle sprain.
