Marlins sign 2021 World Series MVP Jorge Soler to three-year deal

One of the heroes of last year's World Series champions has found a new home.

Jorge Soler has agreed to a three-year deal with the Marlins, as first reported by MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that the deal is for $36 million and contains potential opt-outs after each of the first two seasons.

Soler earned himself such a big payday after a huge performance in last year's postseason and especially World Series. He had several key moments for the Braves in their run to the title, including a mammoth three-run homer in Game 6 that led to the series-clinching victory.

With Miami, he figures to slot in near the top of the order and provide a powerful pop to a lineup that ranked second-to-last in slugging percentage last season. The Marlins also ranked 28th in homers and 29th in OPS, two areas Soler will also help.

Soler began last season with the Royals, but performed much less effectively than he later would with the Braves. He hit just .192/.288/.370 with 13 homers over 94 games with Kansas City, who traded him to Atlanta at the deadline.

The change of scenery was huge, as he hit .269/.358/.524 with 14 homers over 55 games to end the regular season. He then went on to bat .242 with three homers in the postseason, with each of his big flies coming in the World Series.

The best season for Soler came in 2019, when he led the majors with 48 homers for the Royals. He hit 80 homers over four-plus seasons with Kansas City, which came after three years with the Cubs in which he went deep 27 times.
