Kyle Stowers has performed exceptionally well in his past three games. Even though the Miami Marlins outhit the Boston Red Sox on Friday, 9-3, they lost, 2-1. That said, Stowers had two of those hits, both of which were good for extra bases.
After a pair of doubles in the Red Sox opener, Marlins fans were left shocked with the team's starting lineup for game two. Currently third place in the NL West, a hot streak for the Marlins could get them in the Wild Card picture — but they will need Stowers and his hot bat in the lineup as often as possible.
On Saturday, the Marlins released their lineup against Boston and it did not feature Stowers. Three of his last five hits have been for extra bases, and he's driven in two runs in this three-game stretch as he has four runs himself.
Not only is Stowers hitting the ball well, he's seeing it better than he has all season. The 27-year-old has drawn a walk in each of his last three games. In total, he has a walk in five of his last eight games.
Heriberto Hernandez will bat sixth as he takes over in left field. Stowers has primarily played in left, though he has made his fair share of appearances in right field as well. Regardless, he was left out of the lineup entirely.

Amid fan confusion, it was announced by the Marlins via manager Clayton McCullough that Stowers is dealing with an ailment. He was not simply benched.
"Kyle Stowers is dealing with left side tightness, per Clayton McCullough. He’s out of the lineup for precaution," MLB reporter Daniel Álvarez-Montes posted on X.

He’s out of the lineup for precaution.
This makes more sense, especially since Boston has a right-hander on the mound in Brayan Bello.
There's a clear discrepancy in Stowers' lefty/righty splits. The left fielder is slugging .253/.330/.352 against left-handed pitchers. Against righties his numbers are .299/.380/.601. Stower's OPS is .980 against right-handed pitchers compared to .682 against lefties.
In Stowers' place is Hernandez who's hitting .287 in 143 at-bats. He does possess a WAR of 0.6, one that's nowhere near Stowers' 3.6. The 25-year-old had Friday off but has started 10 games in August.
The Marlins losing streak is on full display. Miami has dropped nine of their last 12 since they swept the New York Yankees from August 1-3. Their 11-game road stretch comes to an end once they get past their final two games against the Red Sox.
