The Braves don’t have a ton of guys that belong in the All-Star Game. Which is unfortunate, considering the game is coming to Atlanta for the first time since 2000.
Chris Sale should be acknowledged, even if he doesn’t participate after suffering a fractured rib cage last week. Spencer Schwellenbach has made a helluva case to be included as well, and there really is no All-Star Game without Ronald Acuña Jr., who has been the best player in baseball since returning about a month ago. However, one player that’s not getting enough love right now is Braves first baseman Matt Olson.

Matt Olson currently ranks seventh among National League first basemen in All-Star voting. At this point, it’s a pipe dream for him to get in via the fan vote, but that just shows how dumb fans can be sometimes.
Olson currently leads ALL first basemen in both bWAR (3.1) and fWAR (2.5). He’s the leader in the clubhouse for the Gold Glove award and is starting to find his footing offensively after a somewhat sluggish start. Over his last 14 games, he’s hitting .346 with a couple of home runs and an OPS over 1.000. He is currently second among all first basemen in home runs with 15, third in doubles with 20, and first in walks with 48.
There’s simply no world where Matt Olson doesn’t deserve to be representing the Braves in Atlanta. There’s not a lot of guys in the lineup worth talking about positively right now, but Olson has been right there with Acuña in recent weeks, leading the Braves offensively in a time where runs have been tough to come by.
