The Braves aren’t a small-market team by any means, but they definitely play second-fiddle in the national media to clubs like the Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers. Freddie Freeman and Max Fried are the perfect examples of these practices.
When Freeman left Atlanta for Los Angeles, the move was met with resounding praise for the Dodgers. And now that the future Hall of Famer helped win a World Series in Dodger Blue, he’s garnered more praise than ever.
It’s just funny because he never had that kind of attention in Atlanta, when he was also winning a World Series and an MVP. The same is happening with Max Fried in New York. Despite being arguably the best left-handed pitcher in baseball, specifically at run prevention, over the last half-decade, Fried’s name came up less frequently than those in New York and Los Angeles.
Now that he’s in the Big Apple, Max Fried is the greatest thing since sliced bread. And once again, the national media is trying to take a shot at the Atlanta Braves. Chris Rose of Jomboy Media tried to “get” Fried by setting him up to say New York is more pressure-filled than Atlanta, and the Braves legend responded in kind, stopping Rose in his tracks.
Max Fried tells us why his transition to playing in New York has been so seamless
“New York is New York but Atlanta has a huge fanbase… I feel like there’s a lot of similarities that in this scenario it doesn’t feel all that different.” pic.twitter.com/aWUdi1i1jT

It’s good to see Max Fried acknowledge Braves Country and the expectations that come with playing in Atlanta. While the media pressure in Atlanta isn’t comparable to New York, the expectations and pressure that come with having the support of Braves fans are comparable to those of the Yankees or any other club.
