Max Muncy breaks out of slump, powers Dodgers to victory

Max Muncy came into this season looking to prove something.

He wanted to prove that his 2022 season, the worst season of his career since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers, was just a fluke. Muncy’s power took a massive hit last year. His slugging was .384, a far cry from his .541 slugging from 2018-2021 (excluding 2020).

However, Muncy started the season cold, going 1-for-16. Before he knew it, he was in a 4-for-33 hole through the first week and a half of the season. Muncy studied film, made some tweaks to his swing and added a leg kick before Monday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

Everything seemed to click for Muncy as he smashed a grand slam and a three-run homer in the Dodgers’ 9-1 win.

It was the slugger’s 10th career multihomer game and set a new career-high of seven RBIs.

"It was one of those things where a tough first game of the season got me into a mental rut and my mechanics got out of whack. This was just an easy solution to fix things," Muncy said. " I had a lot of tough pitching to start and I was getting out of my mechanics. This is one of those things where it kind of takes it out of my head."

It’s no secret that Muncy enjoys hitting against the Giants and at Oracle Park. In 73 games against the Giants, Muncy has 51 RBIs and 23 home runs, including the infamous “Go get it out of the ocean” homer.

“I don’t like this place,” Muncy said after the game. It’s cold and windy… but I do hit good here. I don’t know why, but I’m not going to complain about it.”
