Max Scherzer for the win among best MLB player prop bets

I know, I know. Today’s MLB bet of the day isn’t a parlay? What? Is something wrong? Should we not place any more parlay bets? All legitimate questions. But the answer is no across the board. I just really like this player prop bet for Wednesday.

The bottom line is: I’m more confident in this player prop than any parlay I could put together for Wednesday's games, and it offers more value. That’s not to say there aren’t any parlays worth placing on Wednesday, but you know the old saying, “if it’s not there, don’t force it.” That’s where we currently stand.

The Bet: Max Scherzer for the win (+125 via DraftKings)

Bet $100 to win $125

It might be too early to say this is finally the Mets' year, but one thing is certain: Max Scherzer is back. Since coming off the injured list on July 5, Scherzer is 1-1 with a 1.78 ERA in four starts. Not bad, right? No. That’s great. But it’s way more than just the minuscule ERA. Scherzer is striking out guys like it’s nothing — at least eight strikeouts in each of his last four starts — and has walked just two batters this month. Scherzer is finally healthy and getting stronger start after start.

It gets better, though. You know who’s starting for the Yankees on Wednesday? Domingo German. German made his first start of the season last week, and, well, wasn’t all that good: five runs allowed on six hits over three innings in a loss. So, not only is German far from being sharp, he’s far from being stretched out. That’s a bad combination if you’re the Yankees. Especially since the Yankees' bullpen threw 5.2 innings in the opener of the Subway Series on Tuesday. Even if German struggles early, Yankees manager Aaron Boone might have no choice but to leave German out there in order to save his bullpen.

And it’s not like the Yankees have been playing great lately. The Bronx Bombers are under .500 since the break and placed slugger Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list with left Achilles tendonitis on Tuesday. That’s even more reason to put money on Scherzer to record the win. Yes, the Yankees have the best record in baseball, but every team — yup, even the Yanks — goes through a dry spell every now and then.
