The 2025 MLB season is almost upon us and so is a crucial year for the Philadelphia Phillies. Fresh off an NL East title, but subsequent loss in the NLDS, the Fightins are once again hunting for Red October and an elusive third World Series Championship.

Over the next few days, we'll be taking you through each player with a chance at making the Phils' active roster and discussing expectations for all of them. Next up is a backup who stepped up when one of Philadelphia's stars got hurt early last season...

Name: Edmundo Sosa

Number: 33

Position: Infield

Throws: Right

Bats: Right

Build: 6'0", 210 lbs.

Age: 29

Acquired: 2022 Regular Season Trade with St. Louis Cardinals

Socials: Instagram, Twitter/X

2024 Stats: Slashed .257/.313/.422 with seven HRs, 12 doubles, and 31 RBI in 90 games (249 ABs). Sosa got a chance to start at shortstop while speedster Trea Turner was injured during May and June. Edmundo also started Game Two of the NLDS at third base, going 1/4 with two strikeouts.

2025 Projections: Much like the last two years, Sosa is set to be Philadelphia's utility infielder. His ability to play multiple positions well is a huge asset, and he's even been working some in the outfield this spring. His offensive production won't be near many of the others on this roster, but he can still be insurance for if another injury happens at any point this season.

Highlights from Last Season:

Stay tuned through Spring Training for previews of the rest of the Phillies roster.
