The 2025 MLB season is almost upon us, and so is a crucial year for the Philadelphia Phillies. Fresh off an NL East title, but subsequent loss in the NLDS, the Phillies are once again hunting for Red October and an elusive third World Series Championship.
Over the next few days, we'll be taking you through each player with a chance at making the Phils' active roster and discussing expectations for all of them. Next up is the son of one of baseball's all-time great arms...
Name: Kody Clemens
Number: 2
Position: Infield
Throws: Right
Bats: Left
Build: 6'1", 200 lbs.
Age: 28
Acquired: 2022-23 Offseason Trade with Detroit Tigers
2024 Stats: Slashed .219/.258/.447 with five HRs, nine doubles, and 18 RBI in 44 games (114 AB) with the Phillies. Spent the rest of the season in AAA, with a .266/.322/.489 clip and 14 HRs, 13 doubles, and 50 RBI.
2025 Projections: Clemens is a nice insurance policy to have for the infield, and his 'defect' - being another left-handed hitter on a team full of them - is not his fault. The fact that he's out of minor league options helps his chances of staying put for now, but a club competing for a Championship ultimately needs to put the best group of 26 players together it can. If that means keeping another righty in the mix instead - say Weston Wilson once he returns from injury - Clemens may have to face waivers and the possibility of being shipped off elsewhere.
