The New York Mets trailed the Los Angeles Dodgers for six-and-a-half innings on Friday until they tacked on three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5. However, the offense couldn't score in extra innings despite starting each frame with a runner on second base, known as the "Manfred Man." MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred first implemented the rule in 2020 to speed up games.
New York's bullpen held up until the 13th inning, when Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernandez hit a RBI double and center fielder Andy Pages sacrificed into a double play. Los Angeles reliever Luis Garcia (2-0, 4.13 ERA) had a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the frame, and that was the ballgame.
The Mets responded with a couple of roster moves on Saturday, via their social media.
"LHP Brandon Waddell and INF/OF Jared Young have been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse," they announced. "LHP Génesis Cabrera and OF José Azócar have been designated for assignment."
Waddell (0-0, 0.00 ERA) tossed 4.1 shutout innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 30 in his only big-league appearance this season. Meanwhile, Young has 22 MLB games under his belt, but hasn't played in one since 2023.

Cabrera (0-0, 3.52 ERA) has notched 7.2 innings pitched this season, his first as a Met. Finally, Azócar is slashing .278/.350/.278 with one RBI in 12 games. The 29-year-old played for the San Diego Padres from 2022-24.
Southpaw David Peterson (2-2, 2.86 ERA) will take the mound for New York on Saturday night, while right-hander Tony Gonsolin (2-0, 4.05 ERA) will pitch for the Dodgers.
