The New York Mets' offensive struggles continued on Tuesday night as they fell 5-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. This defeat marked their third loss in four games and highlighted ongoing issues at the plate. The Mets managed only four hits, all singles, against Arizona starter Zac Gallen and the bullpen. Their sole run came in the third inning via a bases-loaded walk to Pete Alonso, but they failed to capitalize further as Starling Marte struck out to end the threat.
On the mound, David Peterson had a challenging outing, surrendering four earned runs over six innings. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was instrumental for the Diamondbacks, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth inning and contributing an earlier double that helped tie the game.
The Mets' defense also faltered, with key miscues and poor execution exacerbating their struggles. This loss dropped the Mets to a 23-14 record, while the Diamondbacks improved to 19-17.
In response to their bullpen's recent challenges, the Mets announced on Wednesday the signing of left-handed reliever Colin Poche to a minor league contract. Poche, 31, will report to Triple-A Syracuse.

Poche began the 2025 season with the Washington Nationals but was designated for assignment after posting an 11.42 ERA over 13 relief appearances.
Despite these struggles, Poche brings experience from his tenure with the Tampa Bay Rays from 2019 to 2024, where he was a key bullpen piece, particularly in 2023 when he posted a 2.23 ERA over 66 appearances.
The Mets will look to avoid a series loss in the finale against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon. With their offense in a slump and bullpen seeking stability, the team aims to rebound and regain momentum before returning home for their next series.
