The New York Mets own a 63-51 record and sit second in the NL East. They are on a three-series losing streak and are trying to prevent a sweep against the Cleveland Guardians. But amid an underwhelming few games, fans got some good news on Wednesday.

Pete Alonso has been nominated for the 2025 Heart and Hustle Award on behalf of the Mets. He will now compete with 29 other nominees, including Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals and José Ramírez of the Cleveland Guardians.

"Congratulations to Pete Alonso on being named the #Mets 2025 Heart and Hustle Award Winner! ‍❄️," the Mets posted on X, announcing the news.

"The Heart and Hustle Award is given to the player who 'exemplify a true passion for the game and who best embody the values, spirit, and tradition of the game.'" the team added.

Alonso is hitting. 267 and ranks 11th in the major leagues in home runs with 25, second in RBI with 91 and tied for 15th with a .867 OPS in 114 games played this season.

Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza Sends Message on Pete Alonso

Alonso has racked up 251 career home runs and needs two to move past Darryl Strawberry into first place on the franchise's all-time list.

"It'd be special," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, per Newsday's Laura Albanese. "I don't want to put too much pressure on it ... It's going to happen and if it happens in the next couple days, that means we're in a good place. But I think it'd be special to do it here."
