Tobias Myers is returning to the New York Mets.

After their 8-1 win against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, manager Carlos Mendoza announced that Myers will start on Monday when the Mets begin a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Myers last pitched for New York on May 10 against the Miami Marlins, where he struggled, allowing two earned runs on two hits and a home run in an inning of work. He was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse shortly thereafter.

New York acquired the right-hander from the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason in a deal that also included Freddy Peralta. Myers has primarily been used as a reliever this season for the Mets and will be making just his third start of the year.

The Mets opted to send Myers to Triple-A to stretch him out as a starting pitcher given how thin their rotation depth has become. However, the 27-year-old did not throw more than 2.2 innings in any of his minor league outings, so the Mets will need to get length behind him as well.

In 20 appearances this season, Myers owns a 4.05 ERA, with 26 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP in 33.1 innings of work. He will now be tapped as the Mets' starter for Monday after they concluded a 3-3 homestand, which included taking two out of three from the aforementioned Braves, who own the best record in Major League Baseball.

With Mendoza unsure of who will pitch for the Mets after Myers, potential options are Austin Warren and Huascar Brazobán, who can both give the team length.

New York is also continuing to tread water in the National League standings. They're now 32-39 on the season and 5.5 games out of the third and final Wild Card spot in the NL.
