Mets' Brandon Nimmo Believes He'll be Ready for Opening Day

He's hopeful that he will be out there on Opening Day.

One day after being diagnosed with a knee and ankle sprain, Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo told reporters that he "definitely" thinks he'll be ready for the start of the regular season on March 30 against the Miami Marlins.

"Low (grade) sprain, ankle and knee, which is honestly best-case scenario with what happened," Nimmo said. "Pretty glad about that. Right now we’re just taking it day-by-day. I feel a lot better today than I did yesterday. Once we get all that inflammation out of there, I’ll feel a lot better with it. So, I’m not ruling anything out right now.

"In my heart of hearts, yeah, I do think [I'll be ready for Opening Day]. Obviously, we have to see how it goes, but yeah, right now I definitely think that I’ll be ready for Opening Day."

Nimmo injured himself while sliding into second base in the Mets' Grapefruit League game on Friday night against the Marlins. 

After undergoing an MRI, Nimmo's imaging results showed no structural damage, and just a sprain to the knee and ankle. GM Billy Eppler says his center fielder is week-to-week.

The good news is it is not expected to be serious and Nimmo believes he will be able to play by Opening Day.
