In the bottom of the 10th inning of Tuesday's game between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo appeared to get a bad read on a ball hit by Los Angeles' Freddie Freeman that dropped in to give the Dodgers a dramatic 6-5 win.

Following the loss, Nimmo discussed what went wrong on what became a walkoff double for Freeman.
"[The ball] acted a little bit differently than I’m used to," Nimmo explained, as shared by Phillip Martinez of SNY. "It’s unfortunate, would have loved to have made that play. Two outs and get out of there. Sometimes the ball doesn’t go the way you think."
Tuesday's incident was the second time in a week that Nimmo found himself on the wrong end of a curious in-game moment. Back on May 27, he committed a baserunning blunder that cost teammate Juan Soto a double and the Mets a run.
"I didn’t have enough time to put my foot on the ground and make up the play," Nimmo added about what occurred at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday evening. "I had a read on it. As long as it was staying in the park, I had a play on it. I knew we had to get back quick because we were playing for the base hit. I thought I was going to be able to make a play on it. It just did what I didn’t think it was going to do there at the end. I have a lot of years of experience that tells me the reaction of these things, and that was out of my reaction. I was very surprised to find it on the other shoulder. Very unfortunate time for that to happen."
In Nimmo's defense, he wasn't responsible for relief pitcher Huascar Brazoban giving up a moon-shot of a home run crushed by Los Angeles' Max Muncy that tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. That said, Nimmo could've driven home a go-ahead run in the top of the 10th, but instead grounded out.
Tuesday's defeat likely stung a little extra for Nimmo and Co. considering the visitors were trailing 4-1 after the first before they rallied back to take a 5-4 lead by the end of the fifth. New York previously had gone 3-1 versus the reigning World Series champions this spring.
"It’s been a playoff-type atmosphere. Dodger Stadium has been rocking. It’s been a lot of fun," Nimmo said about the latest rematch of last year's National League Championship Series. "It’s unfortunate a game like that ends on a play like that. It’s been so good and so high-intensity and good baseball. That’s just the way it goes sometimes."
The 38-23 Mets began Wednesday trailing only the Chicago Cubs (38-22) in the overall NL standings. With Tuesday's win, the Dodgers improved to 37-24.
