Brett Baty has arrived.
The Mets slugger has been swinging the bat a lot better since being recalled to the big leagues on May 5.
In the time following the recall, Baty is 14-for-46 (.304) at the plate with five home runs and 13 RBI with an OPS sitting at .986. His performances have been encouraging, and it really goes to show that he has had it in him all along.
It has never been a skill issue with Baty. Rather, it has been a confidence issue. Every time he would get sent back down to the minor leagues, his numbers would surge; however, when he would return to the major league lineup, all of his progress would go out the window.
This time, things have changed, as Baty is still seeking to become the Mets' everyday third baseman, especially with Mark Vientos' recent struggles at the plate and in the field.
The most impressive thing about Baty's offensive explosion is the fact that his season slash line has increased dramatically. Baty was only hitting .204 with a .598 OPS when he got called back up. Currently, he has a .250 batting average and an OPS of .776.
This version of Baty is something that Mets fans have been waiting a long time for, and they could not be more thrilled that he is getting more positive results on the field.
